Basic Surface Attack Video - US Navy Raked Range

Below you will find my Basic Surface Attack video. If you haven't already, make sure you watch the section on the Raked Range Pattern

Flying the pattern

Entry

The Pattern is entered at release altitude and airspeed:
3000ft 450kts - 30° Bombs
2000ft 450kts - 20° Bombs
1000ft 450kts - 10° Bombs

Break

Aircraft break into the pattern at an 8-second interval for 4-ship, and 10 seconds for a 3-ship.
Roll to 45° AOB and pull 4G until pitch = dive angle for the next pass. Continue the turn until 90° of turn is completed, then relax the G to 2-3G. 1000ft before pattern altitude, reduce power and lower the nose.
Pattern Altitudes:
8000ft AGL - 30° Bombs
6000ft AGL - 20° Bombs
2500ft AGL - 10° Bombs

Abeam

Aim to arrive at the abeam position at the following distances:
1.7-1.8NM - 30° Bombs
1.8-2.0NM - 20° Bombs
2.0-2.1NM - 10° Bombs

At the abeam position, roll wings level and fly straight for 8-10 seconds or until reaching the turn point.

Turn Point

The turn point should correspond to the attack cone distance for the subsequent pass:
2.3NM - 30° Bombs
2.7NM - 20° Bombs
2.3NM - 10° Bombs
At the turn point, enter a gentle turn to place the target on your left shoulder, to intercept the Approach Turn Arc.

Approach Turn Arc

You should aim to intercept the Approach Turn Arc at the following distances:
2.7NM - 30° Bombs
3.0NM - 20° Bombs
2.7NM - 10° Bombs

Continue turning until 90° of turn remaining to the target.

Power Up Point At the Power Up Point, select the following power settings:
92-94% - 30° Bombs
95-97% - 20° Bombs
MRT - 10° Bombs
Select Master ARM to ARM, and continue the turn until approximately 30° of turn remain, at which point you should be at Attack Cone Distance.

Roll In Point

Attack Cone Distances:
2.3NM - 30° Bombs
2.7NM - 20° Bombs
2.2NM - 10° Bombs
At the Attack Cone Distance, roll in to place the lift vector on the target and pull it through the standby compass. Roll wings level and place the FPM on the intended dive angle. Assess the Initial Target Placement and adjust until ITP = ~3°.

Tracking

Continue to checkpoint altitude and adjust to ensure TPA corresponds with the following angles:
5° - 30° Bombs
5° - 20° Bombs
4° - 10° Bombs

Allow the crosshair to pass through the target and press the weapon release button.

Recovery

After a momentary pause, smoothly apply 4G and pull the nose through the horizon. When established in the recovery, select Master ARM - SAFE, and engage MRT. At 10° Nose Up, roll to 45° AOB and continue pitching up to the inteded pitch angle. Re-enter the pattern and continue with your next pass.
